If you drink coffee in the bay area, then you know Fourbarrel Coffee. I first met Jeremey, the owner, and Tal, roaster/buyer (featured here) a few years ago when I helped with OPENharvest in Tokyo. These two really know the art of roasting. They use a vintage german roaster for their old-fashioned roasting techniques, their staff is all highly trained and knowledgeable, and they dedicate a lot of time sourcing their beans from a variety of countries, building lasting relationships with providers that have an equal passion for quality.
I really admire their store space, located in the heart of the Mission District. They have a spacious cafe in the front half of the store and right behind the counter is where all of their production takes place. There's a bar facing the back, where one can grab a seat and watch the process.
